Scholarships are Still Available

September 15, 2017

Even though the Community Foundation scholarship cycle has closed, there are still scholarship opportunities for local students though other organizations.

The Horatio Alger Association’s scholarship programs are among the few in the nation that specifically focus on identifying young people who, similar to its Members, have overcome exceptional hardships.  Despite facing adversities in their young lives, Horatio Alger Scholars have proven their ability to succeed.

There are two categories of scholarships: Bachelor degree and Career & Technical.

There are two types of bachelor degree scholarships - National and State.  Two Minnesota students will be selected for National scholarships of $25,000 plus an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC for a National Scholars Conference in March of 2018.  Ten Minnesota students will receive State scholarships of $10,000.

Application deadline is October 25, 2017.

As an FYI, last year there were less than 150 completed applications from Minnesota that met all criteria!

The Career & Technical (CTE) Scholarships were new in 2016.  The 2018 CTE scholarship applications open around March 2018.  Watch the Horatio Alger website for updates.

Can you think of eligible candidates for this year's scholarships?
