All Work and a Little Play

October 14, 2019

If you submitted a grant application for the Community Foundation’s Annual Grant Cycle, hang in there. We are still working on final evaluations, finding the best fit with your need and the criteria of our funds. We hope to have results ready for you at the end of the month.

The Community Foundation wants YOU!

We all remember the iconic poster of Uncle Sam pointing at the viewer and the words “We want you!” emblazoned in bold, attention getting letters. That poster worked incredibly well as a recruiting tool during WWII, and now continues to be one of the more recognizable marketing icons ever created.

A picture of the Community Foundation and the words “We Want You” sure doesn’t have the same effect, but it does carry the same message. We do want you. We want you to be involved, and in a couple of ways.

Giving Local with the Community Foundation

We want you to consider us first when you think about being charitable, especially if that charity is directed toward local organizations and local needs. We exist to help you give back to the community you love. We’re connected closely to local nonprofits. We have the capacity and willingness to handle even complicated gifts of assets you might not normally consider donating to your favorite nonprofit organization. We manage over 30 local nonprofit endowments, helping ensure the future ability of these organizations to continue doing good and important work for our friends and neighbors. In a nutshell, we can help you create your legacy and keep our communities great places to live and raise our families.

Serving Local with the Community Foundation

We also want you to be more directly involved in what we do. Maybe that comes through volunteering to serve on a scholarship selection committee, or becoming a community member of one of our committees. Volunteers allow nonprofits to do the good work they do, and the Community Foundation is no different in that regard.

The Community Foundation is holding an open search for potential board members. Yes, we want you to serve as a Board Member!  Board service is not for everyone, but by opening the application process for those of you with whom we might not normally connect, we hope to create a more diversified pool of potential members. Of course, not everyone will be selected, but knowing more about you could lead to filling other volunteer opportunities with people like you who have a strong desire to serve their community – and we appreciate that!

If you are interested in applying for service on the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation, please go to our Home Page and look for the “Board Application” button. Directions on how to complete and submit the application, as well as information about what it means to be a nonprofit board member are available at that link. Applications are accepted from October 15 – November 12, 2019.  These applications are for the 2020-2021 board year. Applications not selected for the upcoming board year will be retained for future consideration.

We seek a Board of Directors from every facet of our community. From residents of all of Itasca County, Hill City, Keewatin, Remer, Blackduck and Northome locations, to people in all age-phases of life and vocations, please consider serving our community in this most worthwhile way.

The Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation has been connecting donors’ charitable intentions to community needs for over 25 years to make our Greater Itasca Area – and the world – a better place to live. We invite you to become part of the great work we do and to include us in the conversation with your financial or estate planner to answer the question “What good do you want your money to do?” For more information, schedule a visit by calling (218) 999-9100.
